Book

With the objective of identifying and valuing the cultural heritage of Várzea Queimada, the Book “Várzea Queimada: Spirit, Matter and Inspiration,” is part of a work that aims to value, preserve, register and disseminate the region’s immaterial cultural heritage, and its relevance to the national memory and identity.

Documentary

The Documentary – Várzea Queimada: Spirit, Matter and Inspiration tells the story of the place, of the mixture of cultures and ancient traditions, that remain intact to this day, and of how Várzea Queimada adapted to the new social and economic relations. This narrative unfolds from the standpoint of the key characters of this story, reflected in the artisanship activity that preserves ancestral knowledges and combines it to new forms of production and relationship with this ancestry.

“It’s a story that gives us the energy to carry on with our story. For us to keep the memory of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers – who were already artisans – alive. They already produced virtually the same things we produce today. Of course, today we produce them with another view, another perception of the world.”
